I love hot dogs and people often ask what the best ones are. While I like to think it’s the one I’m about to eat, here is a list of my all-time favorites. You might notice a surprise contender for best hot dog city as Las Vegas has 3 of the top 10 locations, with at least 3 more that would hit honorable mention status. Without further ado, here’s the BaconMedic Top 10 Hot Dogs:
The Icelandic Hot Dog: Bæjarins Beztu Pylsur, downtown Reykjavik, Iceland. Order it traditional style (loaded) and dress warmly.
The Martinsville Speedway Hot Dog: Get it with the works, a bright red dog with a steamed bun, mustard, chili, cole slaw and raw onions. The good news? It’s only $2 bucks a dog. The bad? Its only available during race days and NASCAR only visits twice per year.
Flo’s Hot Dogs, Cape Neddick, Maine. Cash only and know how to order (there are very specific instructions posted on the door, which you better keep closed). Whatever style you order, make sure its topped with Flo’s relish
Superdawg, Chicago, Il All beef Vienna dog, served traditional Chicago Style. As always, don’t mess with perfection, order it the way it was meant to be ordered
Dog Haus, Las Vegas, NV So many great dogs to choose from, the addition of a King’s Hawaiian Roll as a bun pushes this place over the top. While all are great choices, the Cowboy (bacon wrapped dog, cheddar cheese sauce, BBQ sauce and crispy onions) is the BaconMedic go to when in Sin City
Buldogis Gourmet Hot Dogs, Las Vegas, NV Asian Fusion meets the American Hot Dog and something special results. So many to choose from, but if you have to choose only one, choose the Bulgogi – topped with beef bulgogi, Asian slaw, green onions, sesame seeds and bulgogi aioli, this is close to perfection.
Nathan’s Famous, Coney Island/Brooklyn, NY Yes, it’s available in grocery stores and has franchised out, but there really is no better summer treat than to order a couple of chili cheese dogs at the original stand on the beach at Coney Island. Probably best to ride the Cyclone before eating
George’s Coney Island, Worcester, MA Like every mid-sized US city worth its salt, there’s a local hot dog joint in Worcester which is especially good. Order your gilled Kayem dog with ‘The Works’, yellow mustard, chili sauce, and chopped onions. And don’t forget the chocolate milk!
Pink’s, Los Angeles, CA It’s famous for a reason and the chili dog is one of the best around. If you’re lucky there may be a celebrity spotting.
Cheffini’s Hot Dogs, Las Vegas, NV Located just a short walk from downtown in the Las Vegas Container Park, there are some amazing variations on hot dogs. The Grandfather, a grilled frank with pork belly, red bell peppers, caramelized onions, crushed potato chips, spicy mayo, basil aioli, pickled mango and topped with a fried quail egg is the BaconMedic’s favorite.
